Providing family and systems advocacy for people with disability in Queensland
At some point in time in the lives of our children, they may be treated differently because of their disability. This is a time when they and their families need support. At QPPD families and allies come together to support each other, to hold on to the idea of a good life for our sons and daughters and to work together to challenge the injustice and discrimination which families encounter. Our organisation’s strength is based on the experience and knowledge of families working together to get a better deal for our family members. We work closely with extended families and allies in other organisations.
QPPD supports families to assert the rights of their family member with disability to be included in education, work, housing and community life. We call this Family Advocacy.
QPPD members work together to push for change to unfair systems and policies such as those within education, employment, housing etc. We strive to promote people with disability as respected, valued, participating members of society. We call this Systems Advocacy.
