The Transition Network is one of several networks of Queensland Parents for People with a Disability (QPPD).

This network was formed in 2006 when the complex transition process for parents and for young people leaving school was seen to be a priority. Our goals are:

  • To support parents and people with a disablility to have a clear vision of the next stage of a meaningful life after school.
  • To lobby all relevant Commonwealth and State Departments to develop a coherent, coordinated approach to transition and earning and learning.
  • To encourage service providers to offer opportunities that are purposeful, individualised and valued
  • We have been working towards achieving these goals throughout the year and this site includes information about some of the activities we have undertaken, such as:

Video footage of the campaign event Launch into Life: planning great futures for young people with disability. On this you will hear our guest speakers – Jenni Pidgeon, Valmae Rose, Lisa Bridle and Professor John Elkins talk about transition.

Position Statement – a summary of all past research with our conclusions about what needs to be done to make changes for the better.

Issues and Recommendations Paper – lists the main issues for parents and the recommendations to address those issues.

Submission to the New Mental Health and Disability Employment Strategy.

Handy Hints Booklet for parents of students with disability – created to encourage and inspire young people with disability and their families to plan for great futures and to have high expectations, plan wisely and expect more than just what is on offer, and to develop their own advocacy.
