Welcome to the Queensland Parents for People with a Disability TRANSITION HOME PAGE.

Our Vision for young people with disability leaving school is that they will participate in the same range of opportunities and choices as all young people.

Our Mission is to advocate for the development and execution of strategies aimed at a systemic level to ensure that young people with disability can pursue their chosen goals through work, further education, leisure and social activities, enjoyment of relationships, travel and an independent lifestyle.

Here you will find a community of support that is simple to be involved in. Support our efforts by lobbying your local State and Federal politicians (click lobby - it's easy), find documents and video footage to view and download, for example:

Video footage of the campaign event Launch into Life: planning great futures for young people with disability and news about our advocacy agenda.

The Documents include our Position Statement, our lobby document Issues and Recommendations, our submission to the New Mental Health and Disability Employment Strategy and the Handy Hints Booklet for parents of students with disability.

The Issues and Recommendations paper lists issues such as negative attitudes and low expectations of people with disability. It gives recommendations about work experience, the transition process, post school options including day services, Disability Employment Services, further education and futures planning.

Our Handy Hints Booklet was created to encourage and inspire young people with disability and their families to plan for great futures that are typical of everyday young Australians. Our aim is to provide information that will help them to have high expectations, plan wisely and expect more than just what is on offer and to develop their own advocacy efforts which will add impetus to the change expected and required from all sectors.
